Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has withdrawn a bid to buy US newspaper Newsday only days after seemingly being in pole position to acquire it, after a competitive bid was offered by rival Mort Zuckerman. The paper is currently owned by Sam Zell.

From the Hollywood Reporter: Search is on for Canadian Miley Cyrus “Universal Music Canada has joined the search for Canada’s version of Miley Cyrus. The Canadian label will offer a record contract to the winner of “The Instant Star,” a summer reality talent show from YTV, Canada’s kids cable channel, and producer Tricon Films & Television, that will bow July 18.” Read more.

Our original plans for Mother’s Day were centered around a low key evening of grilling and dining on our back patio. Torrential rain storms and chilly temperatures made moving inside a wise decision. But it also meant a menu change. We settled on shrimp (do you notice a trend here?) and grits and a green salad and set off to do our shopping.

To be effective it’s necessary for leaders to separate strategy from planning, separating the why and what from the how. This is necessary simply because strategy and planning require two different thinking styles which are not complementary. As highlighted in a post on management-Issues: “Ever been in a strategy meeting where everybody was focusing on the how instead of the what? The main problem with that is strategy meetings are for discussing strategy (the what), not tactics (the how)…..”
